What is osteopathy?

You might be asking yourself, why do I need an Osteopath? Won’t my pain go away on its own? Sometimes this might be true, but just because you’re not in pain anymore doesn’t mean you are suddenly fixed.

In fact, quite the contrary, if you have an injury and you’re not in pain, this serves as the perfect opportunity for our osteopaths to fully investigate by manipulating your injured area without having to worry about causing you additional pain or discomfort.

Many of our clients here at SoCo Therapies have seen some fantastic results from our osteopathy treatments, and you can too. Keep reading below to discover some of the benefits of osteopathy.

What is an Osteopath and why do I need one?

Osteopaths use their hands to assess, diagnose and treat an array of musculoskeletal conditions, including those relating to the bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons.

Osteopathic treatment is a holistic approach that focuses on easing pain and muscle spasms, improving posture and mobility, increasing circulation and flexibility and restoring overall health

You’ll find that where other treatments or clinics adopt a ‘quick fix’ ethos, at SoCo Therapies, our osteopaths encourage patients to play an active role in their own recovery and maintenance of good health. This ensures that your long-term health is better looked after and the risk of re-injury is reduced.

Treatment Process

Our osteopathy treatment process is very simple:

1. Initial consultation - this is where your osteopath will go into detail with you about your history, such as previous injuries, your medical history, how active you are, what you do for work, etc.

2. Examination - your osteopath will then perform an examination to assess your injured area and the general biomechanics of your body, such as joint mobility.

3. Treatment - you will then be treated via a range of different methods, such as, joint mobilisation, dry needling, soft tissue techniques such as massage and manipulations.

Please note that the treatment we decide to use will vary from patient to patient as every case and injury is unique. Before performing any treatment on our patients we always make sure that we get consent to ensure it’s safe to do so.
